1-2-1 Video Analysis & Stroke Correction for Triathletes

1-2-1 Video Analysis with the SharkEYE Video Analysis system

The first step in working with The TEAM CORE on a 1-2-1 basis to help your improve your swim stroke efficiency is to attend a 1-2-1 Video Analysis Consultation session.

During the 75-minute consultation, you will be filmed from a variety of different angles both above and below the water using the SharkEYE Video Analysis unit. You will be instructed to swim for approximately 15-minutes during this time without any given instruction other than to "swim as you would do normally". This will allow the coach to see how you are currently swimming and what areas will need addressing.

Following the initial filming stage, you will be asked to jump out of the water to view the video footage on the SharkEYE's LCD monitor. Please bring both a spare towel and a warm top to put on during this time, so as to not become cold. The coach will show you through the various angles of your stroke in real-time, summarising important areas to consider for further improvement. This is not a "name and shame" session, and there is no need to feel self-concious about going through this process - this is, after-all, what you are here for! Our empathetic approach to our coaching will see both positive and constructive comments on your stroke being identified during this stage. The coach will then replay the video footage in slow-motion to really highlight the most beneficial areas of your stroke to address over the next few sessions. Having a pen and paper is handy at this stage, though as part of the consultation process we will follow-up with an email detailing these areas for future reference.

Once the video footage has been examined and the key areas of your stroke for correction have been identified, the coach will demonstrate these aspects on the dry-land and educate you on exactly why you shall be prescribed the techniques and drills that are appropriate to your stroke. We believe that enhancing the knowledge of the swimmer in this way to be highly beneficial for your continued improvement, especially if you normally train alone. Don't worry though, we won't bog you down in excessive technical detail, and you'll actually find that most of our teaching pointers are so simple to follow that they almost seem "too simple". This is what makes our video analysis consulation and stroke correction service so successful though.

After the dry-land work has been completed, you will be asked to pop back into the water to work through a few basic areas of your stroke that were identified in the video review. This will NOT be a full stroke correction session, rather it will be chance to put into practice a few ideas that the coach has discussed with you on the dry-land. The two video cameras may also be used again during this stage so as to show how the various techniques are making real-time improvements to your stroke. Being able to have this immediate visual feedback is quite literally "worth a thousand words".

The coach will finally summarise the session and give you a few pointers to be working on before your first full stroke correction session. This will be booked-in and ideally should occur between 7 and 10 days after the initial Video Analysis Consultation session. Remember, "Rome wasn't built in a day" and it is highly advisable that (as instructed by the coach) you work through the couple of techique pointers systematically without overloading yourself. After all:

Q: How do you eat an elephant?

A: One bit at a time!

Individual Swim Stroke Correction, PerthThe 1-2-1 Stroke Correction service offered by The TEAM CORE is the second stage in your swim stroke correction development pathway following your initial 1-2-1 Video Analysis Consultation. Please make sure that when booking your 1-2-1 appointment, that the initial video analysis consultation is a pre-requisite to the Stroke Correction service.

Following on from the video analysis consulation, you will book in for the 1-2-1 stroke correction session within 7 to 10 days. It is possible to do both these sessions back-to-back, but ideally the week gap will allow you to both absorb and practice some of the technique pointers from the initial session.

The 1-2-1 stroke correction session takes 60-minutes to complete and expands on what was covered in the video consultation. You will be asked to jump into the water for an initial review of your stroke and instructed to swim for 10-minutes "however feels most comfortable at this point in time". Following this the coach will re-emphasise the areas for consideration from your first session and then begin the process of systematically breaking your stroke down into easy-to-manage stages.

You will be shown that the freestyle swim stroke really is very much like a proverbial jig-saw puzzle (right). Knowing this and appreciating how the various areas interact with each other will give greater understanding of why various drills and technique imagery exercises are being prescribed to you. Much of this will have been covered with you in the initial video consultation and is visually demonstrated in good detail in the Swim Smooth DVD Boxset as well.

There will be ample opportunity to ask as many questions as you feel necessary to get the most from your session, and the coach will be only too happy to expand on various ideas if appropriate.

Whilst the session will be broken down systematically, in the final 10 to 15 minutes you will begin re-building the stroke and synchronising the couple of key areas of your stroke back to together. This process is highly beneficial and you will be shown how these aspects can be easily adopted into your normal stroke.

There will be opportunity at the end of the session to discuss further swim stroke correction sessions and your coach will advise how many sessions and how frequently you should look at doing these. We will not advise extra sessions unless we absolutely believe they are necessary. Supplementary sessions may include:

  • further development of the stroke for those new to swimming / triathlon, or just needing some further attention
  • development of the stroke for open water situations, e.g. triathlon
  • developing a structured training scheme and introduction to training concepts, e.g. appropriate swim sets

The price of your follow-up 1-2-1 Swim Stroke Correction Session is $95.00 (AUD) and includes the 1-2-1 stroke correction with our Head Coach, lane hire and pool entry.

So, what are you waiting for? Register now to request an appointment with a brief bit of detail about yourself and a contact telephone number and he will schedule a session in for you.
